The definition of the verb to authenticate refers to recognizing and attesting the origin, the author and the material of something : thus certifying that the thing is true, not a fake nor a copy.
For his project Authentication, Adrien Molto asked me to develop a way to transcribe the logic of the binary code into weaving, by playing with the thread crossings between warp and weft.
Halo is an illuminated photovoltaic blind.
It was created in collaboration with the world leader in awning fabric Dickson-Constant.
During the day, this autonomous awning stores solar energy, while protecting the idleness of terraces.
Flexible photovoltaic strips bask in the sun.
Halo is an illuminated photovoltaic blind.
It was created in collaboration with the world leader in awning fabric Dickson-Constant.
During the day, this autonomous awning stores solar energy, while shading the terraces.
As they do so, the flexible photovoltaic strips bask in the sun.
The idea of this collaboration is that the transcription of the binary code is no longer based on numerical values (0 and 1), but on the crossing of threads of the same color. When the red warp, for exemple, meets the red weft, they form a point of frank color. This cloud of coloured dots is then detected by the decoder Adrien’s set up.
Thus, this weaving is drawn from the encoded information. It certifies its name (Binaire), its creation date (09/2020), its material (silk), its creator (G.B), and its serial number (001/100).
Its colour scheme is both bold, supported by strong tones, as well as classic, diving into a deep blue (0).

In the evening, it transforms the energy into luminous form and LEDs diffuse the light through optical fibres.
Like a celestial vault, it protects and illuminates the device.
Halo signals the opening of the place, while creating a diffuse and pleasant atmosphere.
From day to night.
